History of CoMMET |
CoMMET was founded in September of 2000 as a result of Prof. Yuri Shkel's appointment to the faculty of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The initial group consisted of, and still consists of, Prof. Shkel and Andrew Horvath, a first year PhD candidate. The two had come in contact while researching electrical and magnetic field controllable composites in the Chemical Engineering Department at UW-Madison. The initial motivation for founding CoMMET was to incorporate our knowledge of field controllable composites towards the development of solid-state sensors. At the moment CoMMET is still in its infant stage. The past few months have been spent setting up our lab, obtaining equipment, and writing proposals. We are definitely looking to expand! Our goal is that CoMMET will grow to around 7 graduate students within the next 5 years. We will also be incorporating undergraduate students into our research in the near future.
